A stevedores’ lashing cage is a suspended work platform that allows dockworkers to access container twistlocks and lashing points safely at height. It is attached under a spreader or hook and provides collective fall protection while speeding up lashing and unlashing operations at container terminals.

It enables stevedores to access the vessel bay safely at height to remove or install twistlocks, turnbuckles and other securing devices. The cage is normally attached beneath a container spreader or hook and includes collective fall-protection features such as guardrails, anti-slip floors, emergency stop systems and secondary safety devices. Using a lashing cage reduces the exposure of workers to hazardous areas on deck, minimizes crane repositioning and significantly increases the overall efficiency of ship turnaround times. Modern lashing cages follow international safety guidelines and are designed to withstand dynamic movements from the crane while keeping workers stable and protected.
