A Ship to Shore Crane (STS Crane) is a type of large, gantry-style crane used to load and unload containers from ships at port. These cranes are typically located on docks and can handle a wide range of container sizes and weights.
The crane is positioned on rails or tracks parallel to the water’s edge, and the crane’s boom extends out over the water to reach the ship’s cargo hold. The crane’s hoist system, which includes cables and hooks, can lift containers off the ship and move them to the dock or vice versa.
STS cranes are often used in conjunction with other types of port equipment, such as container trucks, forklifts, and straddle carriers, to move containers to and from the storage yard.
